Orange Coast College baseball coach John Altobelli among helicopter-crash victims.

HOUSTON — Basketball superstar Kobe Bryant was among 9 people killed in a helicopter crash in California Sunday. We’ve also learned that a baseball coach, who played his college ball in Houston was also on that chopper. Orange Coast College confirmed to the Orange County Register that John Altobelli was killed in the crash. Altobelli’s brother, Tony, is the sports information director at the school. He said his 56-year-old brother died along with his wife, Keri, and daughter, Alyssa, who was about 13 and played on the same basketball team…

A frightening moment captured by Carlos Escobedo on the East Loop this afternoon in Houston.  A big rig traveling with it’s bucket in the raised position slams into the freeway signage, tumbling the structure to the roadway in a tangled mess. Wrong way driver killed on I45 southbound. This fatal crash occurred around 5:30 am Sunday according to authorities. The driver of the truck has not been able to be identified. The vehicle suffered extreme damage after being spun around and catching fire. According to reports from officers on scene. The driver entered the highway at Richey and headed north on the southbound lanes of I-45. The crash happened about a mile from that point.
